A Team Approach to Caregiving

Originally presented Tuesday, June 23, 2020 by Lori Maass Vidlak

When caring for a loved one, it's often difficult to ask for help and to accept offers of assistance. And while friends and family may want to provide support, they often don't know the best ways to do that. This presentation explores the benefits of taking a "team approach" to caregiving and shares some tips about how to build and coordinate an effective caregiving team.

About the presenter: Lori Maass Vidlak holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in education. She has worked as a newspaper reporter, teacher, educational media producer and planning consultant. She served as a "long-distance" primary caregiver for her elderly parents until being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Those experiences inspired her to form her first care team, and that team propelled her through a difficult year of treatment, facing a wide variety of health challenges. Since her recovery, she has been a care team coordinator three additional times for friends and other family members.

This presentation was hosted in partnership with the Lincoln Caregivers Education Group, The Nebraska Caregiver Coalition, AARP Nebraska, and Answers4Families
