Self Care for School Nurses

Self Care for School Nurses presented by Sheri Dawson, RN, BS, Director of the Division of Behavioral Health in the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services on November 8, 2021.

At the end of this presentation, School Nurses will be able to:

  • Define self-care.
  • Discuss the importance of self-care as it relates to overall wellness.
  • Identify the domains of self-care.
  • Develop one new strategy to enhance personal wellness.

About the presenter:

Sheri Dawson, RN, BS has served as Director of the Division of Behavioral Health in the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) since being appointed by Governor Pete Ricketts in 2015. She graduated from Bryan School of Nursing and Nebraska Wesleyan University. She has devoted over 34 years to the prevention, treatment and recovery of individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. She has served in a variety of roles in Public Health and Behavioral Health at Nebraska DHHS over the last 20 years. Sheri served in nursing administration roles in mental health and substance use treatment in both private and public settings. Sheri currently serves as the President on the Board of National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) and the Region VII Representative to the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) Board of Directors. She is passionate about ensuring behavioral health is a normalized and integrated part of the healthcare conversation. She believes nurses are the heart and soul of healthcare and that NURSES ROCK!!
