School Health Updates - Public Health, Epidemiology, and School Health in Nebraska

Public Health, Epidemiology, and School Health in Nebraska presented by Blake Hendrickson, MPH, and Susan Puckett, RN on January 16, 2020.

Blake Hendrickson is an Epidemiologist with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). He works closely with local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to identify cases of vaccine-preventable diseases and coordinates response efforts to outbreaks when they occur in Nebraska. He also works closely with the Immunizations Program at DHHS as well as healthcare providers to promote vaccinations.

Susan Puckett is a Community Health Nurse from the Two Rivers Public Health Department. Susan has a unique perspective on this topic as she spent many years as a School Nurse in Kearney, NE and now works to coordinate the disease surveillance program at Two Rivers. Susan has decades of experience in school health, acute care for pediatrics, and mental health.

Objective: Describe how infectious diseases are reported and addressed in Nebraska between school officials, healthcare providers, and public health officials.
