Acting U.S. Surgeon General Coming to Nebraska

The Acting U.S. Surgeon General will visit Nebraska in April to speak to teachers, parents, students, and others who play a role in the lives of young people about the dangers of underage drinking. He was invited by Nebraska’s First Lady, Sally Ganem, as part of a national first spouses’ initiative.

Methamphetamine use is at epidemic levels in some parts of the U.S. and is increasing. This presentation will review the extent of the methamphetamine epidemic, and new research on how methamphetamine affects the brain. Clinical disorders associated with methamphetamine and available treatments will be highlighted.

ThePartners for Meth Prevention(PMP) Coalition, in cooperation with the National Safety Council and Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare (ATOD) PreventionSystem Services, will be holding a free 4 hour class on the Meth360 program. The session will cover program origins, successful implementation strategies, and offer networking opportunities for those agencies interested in using the program. A light lunch and a certificate of attendance will be provided.
