Other Drug Treatment

Other drugs, not already discussed on this website, that users can abuse include club drugs, ecstasy, heroin, ketamine, hallucinogens, and many other substances.

In general treatment for any addictive substance entails utilizing one or more of many different treatment options. Sometimes, treatment for an addiction can be the supervision of family or friends who give support and encouragement to the user while he stops abusing the substance. In other cases, once the user has recognized his problem, he can begin attending a support group or 12-step-program as a treatment for his addiction.

In most cases, however, especially when the user has abused a substance for a long period of time, friendly encouragement is not enough and the individual must check into a treatment facility. Today’s treatment facilities come with a range of treatment lengths and some specialize in a particular type of substance treatment. There are hundreds of centers and a quick internet search can result in dozens of treatment options for a user’s particular addiction.

During treatment, most users experience withdrawal symptoms and the types of symptoms depend on the abused substance. Some symptoms are mild and others can be more severe. For some addictions, there are currently pharmaceutical treatments, which help to ease the treatment period and lessen withdrawal symptoms.
