Support Groups

Obviously I'm a firm believer in support groups since I coordinate one, but as a new parent I found that it was great for my whole family. Last year I sat down and wrote up just exactly why I thought parent to parent support was so important. Maybe you would like to share this with the new group in Kenesaw? And by the way I wish them luck in getting their group up and running. And if you are a new parent on-line who wonders what conversing with other parents will be like and if it will be helpful....consider these things. ;) Annie Adamson.

Why is Parent to Parent Support so Important?

  1. COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION
    • Gaining knowledge about resources.
    • Learning new things.
    • Hearing new things.
    • Getting answers to questions.
    • Knowledge that you are not alone.

  2. PARTNERSHIPS
    • Meeting others who speak the same language.
    • Someone to cry or vent to, and know it's all right to do so.
    • Make new friends.
    • Find willing listeners.
    • Another parent who has a child with the same disability as your child has.
    • Talking with someone who uniquely understands.

  3. SUPPORTIVE EMPOWERMENT
    • Help getting over the rough spots.
    • Building positive attitudes.
    • Experiencing growth as a person...as a family.
    • Using experiences to help others.
    • A parent doing something for themselves.
    • Experiencing others perspectives.
    • Sharing celebration of the good things.
