I Can Play: Play as a "Fun-damental" Experience for Every Child

For Educators, Parents, Therapists, and ANYONE who works with children!

Play is a life long activity and the foundation for all formal education. Play environments must support and encourage the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social development of every child. When planning play opportunities it is important to take into consideration a wide range of abilities and to consider “hidden” disabilities (e.g. autism). Participants will learn why it is important to integrate a variety of play experiences into the lives of all children.

Participants will learn:

  • That play is an essential developmental experience for every child.
  • How play experiences can be modified and enhanced for children of all abilities.
  • How to “universally design” play experiences.
  • To identify barriers to accessibility and inclusion.

Workshops presented by Center for Creative Play’s Senior Play Environment Specialist, and Occupational Therapist, Ingrid M. Kanics, OTR/L. A recent recipient of the Pennsylvania and the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Award for her work in “Innovative Indoor Play and Sensory Motor Environments,” Ingrid has presented at national conferences for NAEYC, Parents-as-Teachers, and the Association of Children’s Museums. Her presentations are practical, informative, and leave participants motivated to make a difference and armed with the tools to do so.
