Caregiver Support Groups

Do You Need Support Caring for an Older Person? A caregiver support group can offer an atmosphere of understanding and support for caregivers to discuss issues and problems. Some caregivers feel if they participate in a support group they are in some way not coping. Nothing could be further from the truth. By participating in a group, they are recognizing that to become a successful caregiver might include seeking additional support and resources.

Formats for a caregiver support group can:

• Provide guest speakers with information on a variety of caregiving topics.
• Help you deal with stress and provide ways to reduce its effects.
• Help you deal with emotional issues, such as the guilt of placing a family member in a nursing home.
• Provide you with information about community resources and benefits.
• Help you understand and address the losses associated with caregiving.
